The Carmelite ideal was so interesting to fascinate the heart of Anna Maria Tauscher Van den Bosch, who was converted to the Catholic Church.

Firstborn of 8 siblings she was born from Lutheran parents on June 19 1855 at Sandow in the Marca of Branderburgo(present Poland)

Her desire for the mother of Carmel was so steadfast that on October 30 1888 she joined the catholic church with the profession of faith. This step caused her a lot of humiliations and sufferings: her expulsion from her paternal home, dismissal from her job as director of a psychiatric hospital in Cologne. This way, homeless, without a job and abandoned by all she wandered in search of a lodge and a occupation. Finally found refuge in a religious institute, later moving to a family where she worked as a lady companion. Meanwhile her work of faith was carried on intrepid and generous on the path of God.

She, the young Maria, noticed that in the Berlin town many children were left by themselves.

Having compassion on them, She, started to take care of them. On July 2 1891 she opened a house for the children and named it “Home for the homeless”.

On August 2 she started to receive the first ones and soon the house was filled with many lively children. Later a few of her companions joined her mission. The small seed grew and developed. Her goal from the very beginning of her life was to work for the salvation of souls. . This charism grew up in her life in the spirit of expiation and reparation through her committed life to serve the needy brethren. (poor children, the elderly and the lonely ones, family visiting, catechesis, visiting of the prisoners and the sick.

Mother Maria Teresa of St. Joseph founded the Carmel of divine heart of Jesus for the purpose of saving the church and beneficiate the world. The lord was keeping vigil by her work and when everything seemed to collapse God laid his hand and it prospered again, obtaining shortly the church approval and extending itself beyond the European border.
